Modest Clothing for Muslimahs Online

Written by UmmHuraira

As a Muslim woman living in the west, it is very hard to find clothes that are both modest and stylish and fit the Islamic guidelines of hijab. You can either look like a “hojabi”, which is a veiled woman wearing tight clothes showing every curve on her body (which takes away from the whole reason she is wearing hijab in the first place), or you can look like a frumpy, old grandma without any style (who says modesty has to equal ugly?). Now I am no expert when it comes to clothing and I am not very creative trying to mix and match clothes to make them look modest and beautiful at the same time. I am so indecisive that I can’t even decide what to eat, let alone pick something to wear. But I have collected some websites, in no particular order, that may be useful to those out there who are looking for Islamically proper attire with some style:

  1. www.ebay.com – Just search “hijab” and you will come up with many different listings! You will have to sift through all the pages to find something that you would like, but I recommend getting an eBay account and trying it out. Just be sure to watch the item you want near the end of the auction, or you may be outbid. (Don’t you hate when that happens?).
  2. http://shukronline.com – This is my favorite site to browse. I say browse because many things on there are not cheap, but once in awhile, they have a big sale, so it’s nice to keep it bookmarked.
  3. http://www.almuhajabat.com – This is a pretty nice site. I bought a few hijabs there when they had a special sale. Haven’t bought any clothes, but they seem nice, and not overly expensive.
  4. http://hijabs-r-us.com – I bought some Al-Amira hijabs from there that I really like. Plus, they are useful for work or for women who have to move around a lot during the day because they stay in place and don’t have to adjust them. They also have other types of hijabs. A big plus is FREE shipping within the US!
  5. http://www.al-mujalbaba.com – I bought a couple of skirts from here that were long and flowy. As someone who is 5’5”, I get excited when I happen to stumble upon the rare long skirt without slits out in the stores, but then get disappointed when the skirts are not long enough. Anyway, length was no problem with the skirts I bought from this site. Plus, I think they are custom-made, so you could probably ask them to shorten or lengthen the skirts according to your height. They also sell many other items.
  6. http://www.mukminunclothing.com – I have not bought from the store directly, but from their eBay listings, but what I did buy was good quality and the owner is very nice.
  7. http://www.almuminat.com – A friend has told me that the items are very good quality and the prices are not bad.
  8. http://www.al-ikhlas.com – A friend has told me this site is good too and the owner is nice. She has bought Salwar Kameez’s from there, but to make sure to ask the owner if things are in stock because the site is not always updated.
  9. www.veiledbydesign.com – A friend has told me that this is the best website she has ordered from. The woman who runs it is also very nice and helpful and all the clothes coordinate nicely.

The rest of the links below are sites that I have personally not shopped from or heard reviews about so I will not give any personal feedback:

  1. http://www.islamicboutique.com
  2. http://www.alsundus.com
  3. http://www.alhannah.com
  4. http://www.alhediya.com
  5. http://www.jelbab.com
  6. http://www.desertstore.com
  7. http://www.thehijabshop.com
  8. http://www.hijabsandmore.com
  9. www.simplyislam.com

I know there are many more websites out there, but here are just some to get someone started. If you know of any more or have any reviews about any, feel free to comment! If nothing interests you or is too expensive, I guess you can always learn how to sew, which is actually not a bad idea at all because you can make your own clothes for much cheaper. :)

InshaAllah, we can all dress in a halal fashion and properly represent our religion both inside and out.
